Position: Production Underwriter - Workers Compensation
Location: Remote
Responsibilities:
- Underwriting and Risk Assessment:
- Evaluate insurability of potential policyholders
- Develop premium quotations using underwriting guidelines
- Accept or reject accounts within authorized limits
- Business Development and Relationship Management:
- Cultivate and maintain agency partnerships
- Drive new business growth and retain existing accounts
- Manage assigned territory under supervision
- Customer Service and Problem Resolution:
- Address agent and policyholder inquiries
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve issues
- Research and respond to queries from agents, policyholders, and regulators
- Product Promotion and Education:
- Highlight benefits of company insurance products to customers
- Participate in promotional activities for company and agents
- Represent company at trade associations and exhibits
- Performance Analysis and Improvement:
- Review production and loss data for agents
- Identify exposure risks and adjust pricing as needed
- Develop action plans to address poor performance
- Training and Compliance:
- Appoint and train new agents and agency staff
- Conduct periodic agency audits
- Ensure adherence to company systems and processes
- Market Intelligence:
- Gather competitive and product information
- Monitor industry trends and loss patterns
- Reporting and Administration:
- Prepare periodic reports as requested
- Participate in internal and external committees as needed
Qualifications:
- Experience and Expertise:
- Minimum 5 years in insurance, with focus on workers compensation or P&C
- Advanced knowledge of workers compensation laws and underwriting practices
- Analytical and Decision-Making Skills:
- Ability to evaluate risks, determine pricing, and make sound underwriting decisions
- Skill in analyzing data, solving problems, and implementing corrective actions
- Relationship Management:
- Proven ability to manage agency relationships and meet customer needs
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with agents, policyholders, and internal stakeholders
- Technical Proficiency:
- Understanding of insurance-specific concepts
- Ability to calculate premiums, dividends, and perform agency audits
