Position Overview:
Our client is looking to add a Property Underwriter, with a focus on natural catastrophes, to their team. The Underwriter will be instrumental in managing and expanding our client's insurance portfolio, emphasizing both standard property and casualty coverage as well as catastrophe-related risks. This role involves assessing and mitigating risks associated with properties and liabilities, analyzing data, and determining appropriate coverage and pricing for both routine and high-risk scenarios. The Underwriter will ensure that all decisions align with company standards and regulatory requirements while building strong relationships with brokers and stakeholders. Expertise in catastrophe risk management will be crucial for balancing risk, driving growth, and ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate and analyze risks associated with both routine property and casualty coverage as well as catastrophic events such as natural disasters. Develop strategies to manage and mitigate high-impact risks while setting appropriate coverage limits and premiums.
- Policy Development: Design and adjust coverage terms, conditions, and premiums based on detailed assessments of property-specific and catastrophe-related risks. Ensure policies adhere to underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Portfolio Management: Manage a diverse portfolio of property and casualty accounts, focusing on properties exposed to catastrophe risks. Handle new business opportunities and renewals with a strategic approach to optimize coverage and mitigate potential losses.
- Client & Broker Relations: Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with brokers and clients. Provide customized insurance solutions addressing both standard property needs and specific catastrophe risks to enhance client satisfaction and retention.
- Market Insight: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes. Adapt underwriting strategies and policies to address evolving property risks and catastrophic threats effectively.
- Business Strategy & Forecasting: Support business planning by offering insights on risk exposure and premium income. Engage in marketing activities, attend industry seminars, and keep abreast of market dynamics to drive business growth and resilience.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting, with a proven background in managing catastrophe risks.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor's degree required.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Required: Relevant state Property and Casualty licenses or surplus line licenses.
- Preferred: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
