A deal team within a prominent firm's private debt and equity division consists of a Deal Lead and typically two other team members. The Senior Associate supports the underwriting process across origination, structure, due diligence, negotiation, and legal documentation. Responsibilities include conducting financial analysis, research, and modeling to support underwriting and credit decisions, as well as ongoing monitoring of portfolio investments.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key member of the transaction team, focusing on middle-market financing for mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, and growth capital opportunities typically ranging from $10 million to $50 million.
- Play a significant role in the underwriting process, including assisting in formulating the investment thesis and identifying key risks for new opportunities.
- Prepare and finalize financial models and assist the Deal Lead in presenting investment recommendations.
- Conduct regular investment monitoring, analyzing and reporting on assigned investments using client relationships, portfolio management tools, and financial data systems.
- Assist in developing strategic relationships with private equity partners and industry associations.
- Ensure smooth funding processes and ongoing data integration with operations teams.
- Synthesize data and prepare management reports as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Required: Bachelor's degree plus 6-8+ years of relevant experience in leveraged lending, investment banking, or private equity.
- Preferred: MBA or other relevant post-graduate degrees or certifications.
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced understanding of financial, investment, and market concepts, including capital structure, valuation, covenants, and relative value.
- Proficiency in leveraged finance markets, including private equity and the middle-market lending environment.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills to build relationships and advance investment strategies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously within a team environment.
- Capability to collaborate across various operational, functional, and technical disciplines and mentor junior team members.
- Proficiency in relevant financial tools and technologies.
